sunday fun-day

i saw this on the victory park calendar for this sunday, the 30th...looks like a good time. i also did a little research, and the park is pet-friendly. i know, i know, nothing can beat lee harvey's "dog-day-afternoons," but that doesn't start until 4pm and it's on the way there.

i say BRING IT.

Sunday In The Park @ 3-8PM

Kick off the fall season in style on the lawn in Victory Park every Sunday through November 4th!

Enjoy food, drinks and music with DJ Wish FM and White Lotus Society!

Parking available in Lot B off High Market Street, North of the Park. Parking also available in Lot C off North Houston St across from Museum Way.

letter to the editor

i love people from chicago. seriously, i have never met a chicago-native that i do not love whole-heartedly. it started with my first super bowl memory, when i picked the fighting chicago bears to win over the patriots (and was the only member of my family to do so...i was a refrigerator perry fan!) then i met oprah on tv a few years later, then i went to college and met mary, and then moved to dallas and met doug and kelly...the hits just keep on coming!!! (not to mention i appreciate the bears allowing my dimple-clad cowboy, tony romo, an at-chicago victory this evening!!)

that said, i was just reading some opinion letters on the dallas morning news website and read another great former chi-town resident that now resides in dallas comment regarding the close-to-my-heart trinity river project:
Take a look at the Windy City
Having lived in Chicago for the past 19 years, I look at this controversy and shake my head in disbelief. The idea that a roadway cannot exist along with a park is ridiculous.

Did the opponents ever hear of Lake Shore Drive in Chicago? The width of land from the front door of million-dollar homes to the edge of Lake Michigan is half of the land in question for the Trinity River Park. Cars whiz by as residents jog, splash, picnic and relax in the Chicago parks that comingle with the concrete.

When Millennium Park was first proposed in Chicago, the good mayor said it would cost one thing and, of course, it ended up costing more. But go there and be amazed.

(insert by katy - yeah, that really looks like it "sucks"...come on, dallas!!!)

So before the vote in November, I would encourage everyone involved to take a field trip to Chicago and see how a real city works. Then return to Dallas and get this project going, so we can show the world that in 2007, Dallas can, as former Chicago city planner Daniel Burham said, "make no little plans."

you all remember "the landlord"...which is definitely the funniest video i have ever seen on the net. however, i must say, pearl is back and this one is equally hysterical.

Good Cop, Baby Cop
"hi hell, i've got someone coming to you..." genius.

how many earths do you need?

i took this quiz this morning after hearing about it on NPR on the way to work. very interesting, especially once you are finished and able to compare/contrast your answers to others. the premise is this - how many planet earths it would take to sustain life if everyone lived as you do. it definitely made me think!

in other news, the wall street journal is now (finally!) available online in it's full "premium" content. good stuff!

book 'em, horns!

i'm not sure if the longhorns will be able to field a team by the time we get to october. my oh my, with no offensive line and half the number of players they need to field a team being arrested in the last couple of months, they may have some issues! what's going on in austin?!?!?

happy 25th birthday! ; )

this made me smile...who knew people were typing on message boards when i was four?!?! i bet it was he and al gore, since he invented the internet and all (see, i can even poke fun at politicians that i like, wyatt). : )

happy birthday to :-)

F-U-N

we have been out of town so much since the wedding, it was nice to be here for a change. i gave our tix away to a very happy work-friend.

friday night we relaxed, getting geared up for the "back to school" party we co-hosted with our friends, courtney and chris, at their place. the theme was set as a college party, and it definitely lived up to it's name! we had a great time and a good crew...don't worry attendees, i left the most of the incrimnating pictures to themselves...
kelly playing a "college" version of ping-pong, she was a natural.

what's this button for?

hoo-rah for kappa

sisters.

ace in the hole

jay looks like he is an angry football coach

to top it all off, when we were leaving their house for the evening, someone had rolled (as in the trees were covered in toilet paper) chris and court's house! apparently the culprit hit a couple of places that evening...the mystery people are still at large...but VERY funny. my friends seem to revert easily to college AND high school!!! ; )

i am...

so happy, this is a great beginning to college football season. i'm also never washing my right hand again, because i finally shook bob stoops hand on saturday...it was long overdue.

saturday we watched our very own oklahoma sooners take on miami and completely route them. after the game we were asked to attend stoops' coaches party and got to hang with all of our favorite OU coaches, including stoops and bobby jack wright.

what a great day we had...these fall weekends could not be better. sam bradford is working out quite nicely and our defense is just fun to watch. taking that number three spot in the AP poll feels good and we are on our way to a very fun season!

jay is a pimp

we are subscribers and avid readers of D magazine and somehow, someway, we missed this last month. jay made the cool-person list in the best issue ("best of big D") of 2007.

i have a feeling that adam and tim had something to do with this...thanks for making my hubby a p-i-m-p. ; )

carter albrecht

this is a tragic loss and you will be missed.

labor day weekend - halfway point

i love long weekends. it's so nice for it to be 3:30pm and only half way through it.

woo-hoo! what a fun time to be in norman...the first game of the season is always so exciting, and it doesn't hurt to see your team come out and play like we did yesterday. we looked good and i can't wait for next week, a chance to play miami is always fun.
the kids always make the trek

good shot by me, huh?

sooner schooner takes the field!

view from our new season tix...stoops in the center of the pic

thanks again to "the other" jay and katie for the help with the tix!

today we got up and headed to my brother's church to see my nephew, nathan, get baptized. it was a very meaningful experience to see him (a wild and crazy kiddo) in such an act of obedience as to follow through not only with the decision to become a christian, but to to God's request that we share our new faith with others around us in the act of baptism. i definitely shed a tear, and watching my dad perform the baptism just made it more meaningful.

after we headed to their house, where the norm-anator got some good swim time with the kiddos and some of their friends. pretty fun stuff.

tonight we are headed out with some good friends for a fun night out in dallas, then to the tech vs. smu game tomorrow. i have lived in dallas all these years and this will be my first trip to gerald j. ford stadium. i am looking forward to it! and yes, i am cheering for both teams so that neither my pony friends nor red raider friends can be angry with me. i'll wear red and cheer both ways!
