i heart nike

i was rooting for ohio state in the national championship this year. (no, they aren't the sooners, but they'll do. herbstreit went there, and that's enough for me). i always root for nike clothing. good stuff. enough dialouge, this video is funny, courtesy of jay.

news?

does anyone else wonder if anything else has happened in the last 24 hours?

seriously, this has been the lead story on cnn for more than a day! i don't remember the last time a story kept "our" attention to this level. r.i.p., anna nicole. and cnn, let's get some new stories!! hasn't paris hilton been drunk or exposed for drug use? haven't bush's approval ratings dropped more? something else must've happened!

that said, i, like most of you, have turned my head everytime i hear word that there is "breaking news" in her case. "oh, breaking news, what has happened?!?!?" i am just amazed how captivated we all (obviously) are. what did the toxicology report say, where will the baby end up, who is the father, oh, another quote from the owner of the jim's crispy fried chicken shack in mexia?!? i must hear!!....

the bear trail game

in my journeys through my new neighborhood with norman-the-world's-best-golden-retriever, we tend to go a different path every time we go out. especially with running, you don't necessarily want the same route everyday or it starts to get boring.

there are plenty of great places to run right outside my front door...dirt paths along the trinity river, various parks, and of course, just hitting the streets and looking at houses while you jog. yesterday we ran in the 'hood, and ended up running through the tcu campus. i've never thought about it much, the fact that i live so close to a university...a large university that is swarming with students. it is so strange to live so close you could almost feel a part of campus life, yet you are not associated with the school in any way. i guess i just like the fact that i do, it's nice to have all that energy around me.

so anyway, jogging across campus, i thought back to my days at baylor and how excited i would be to run the "bear trail" (yes, i know it sounds totally gay, but it was fun and a social event in-and-of itself to run on it) again. this took me back in time and i began reminiscing
on a game we invented, "the bear trail game." ( see photo below, a young baylor girl stretches before her jog) the rules were simple, you would drive around the trail with a car full of girlfriends, and as you approached a jogger/runner/walker that was alone, you would do one of the following:

a.) upon spotting a jogger/runner/walker coming toward you, turn off your lights, pull slowly toward the curb, then suddenly SCREAM bloody murder at the top of your lungs. this one was funny, but even i thought a bit cruel. possibly because of the fact that gangs do this just before they "put a cap in you" but maybe not...

b.) go out with bottles of water and in a strange and creepy voice, all the while flailing out the window, offer the water to the jogger/runner/walker. if it was cold outside, "you want water? it's really hot out here!" as long as you appeared insane or mentally unstable, this was hysterical.

c.) while running, find spots on the trail to hide quietly. as jogger/walker/runner approaches, jump out and scare the pee out of them. we usually reserved this for close friends, but who knows? sometimes you just couldn't resist.

d.) this one is my favorite, the car sneak approach...the jogger/runner/walker is in your sites, but has their back to you. again, you turn off the lights, but this time they do not see you approaching. just as you get next to them, everyone bursts out of the windows SCREAMING and the driver honks the horn loudly. this one definitely got the most laughs, and truly was a gem. we had one guy friend that literally almost jumped over the railing of a bridge (a short fall, i promise) we scared him so bad.

i know, i know, it sounds cruel, and i think at the time we actually thought we were kind of crazy or scary, but who is really frightened by a bunch of college girls in kappa t-shirts with baylor stickers and "KKG" license plate covers?? usually people ended up laughing after the initial scare, unless of course they got me. i hate being scared. ;)

i'm thinking of starting a "horned-frog-trail game," but it might finally be creepy, in my late 20's, alone, cruising the tcu campus trolling for college kids to yell at...yeah, i think i'll leave it alone. it was fun while it lasted. ;)

it's a beatiful day.

there are days that creep up on you out of nowhere and make you feel happy to be alive. today, friday, january 26, 2007, is one of those days that makes you sooo happy you live in texas. for weeks we have had brrrr cold weather, ice, rain, grey skies...but today we were given a little glimpse of the spring that is upon us, and let me tell you, i CANNOT WAIT!!!

it is 65 degrees, the sky is blue and clear...leaving my desk at noon, i was planning to go home and eat lunch, watch some tube, same old blah. but today i couldn't resist. i raced home, threw on shorts and a t-shirt, grabbed norman, and went for a run. it was GLORIOUS. we raced around the park, jogged along the trinity river, chased ducks and squirrels (yes, we both did...it is fun, you should try it sometime), and came home to play with mckenzie in the backyard...

thank you God, for this beautiful day!!

bye-bye, AD

it's official, our own adrian peterson is set to enter the NFL draft. it's a very bittersweet moment. he has been a sensational asset to OU's offense and will be a spectacular addition to any team. apparently he has until tomorrow evening to change his mind, but it looks like he's thought this through...best wishes, AD! you will be missed!!

the iphone is here. jay...i have two word for you: valentines day. 'nuff said. ; )

    1.08.2007

"oh eddie, if i woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, i wouldn't be more surprised than i am right now."

this college bowl series has just been unreal. i mean, seriously, unbelievable. it's why i love college football...totally unpredicatable.

it's a damn good thing i don't like to gamble, because i'd be broke now.

congrats (humbly) to the 2007 national champions...

but watch out for next year, because the SOONERS are chasing your title!!! BOOMER!!!

    top five finale

happy new year and hooray for 2007!

    5. new years in scottsdale with jay, jacque, and judd was F-U-N. we had some great food and found our way into an excellent party at the phoenician resort. full band, dancefloor, outdoor terrace, fireworks, it was excellent.

    4. exploring the foothills of scottsdale with jay in our jeep...that place is amazing and we had such a good time that afternoon.

    3. the reasons for coming home...man, i missed my pups. seriously, this obsession cannot be normal. the moment we got mckenzie into the car, she leapt into the backseat and norman licked her little nose and put his arm around her. they cuddled up and slept the whole way home from my parents' house.

    2. i don't know that i will ever see another football game like this year's fiesta bowl...ever. in a five minute period, i went from the highest emotion (tears, laughter, screaming) of happiness to the deepest feeling of defeat. but i must say, that game was well played on both sides and incredibly fun to watch. i can't believe i can say that, but it's true. it was anybody's game and wow, i can't wait to see our team next year!

    BOOMER SOONER!

    1. this one may sound cheesy, but i mean it...the best part of my new years was spending it with this guy. my best friend, my future husband, and most certainly, the perfect man for me!!

    12.29.2006

    no lie...

at the end of the year in banking, we are required to take a lot of compliance courses and testing. i just finished a course called:

Basic Precautions: Bird Flu in the Workplace

people, i can't make this stuff up. and yes, the picture to the right WAS an actual illustration on the test. i have been giggling for at least ten minutes. oh, and just so you know, i got a 100 on the test, so if you ever need any tips on avoiding bird flu, call me. ; )

    top 5 - christmas 2006

christmas and the days surrounding it are always such a fun time for me. this week, in no particular order:

    1. my macbook has a photobooth feature, that allows you to take funny pictures from your computer's camera...when my nephews and nieces discovered this, we had hours of fun...

    2. watching kids open gifts is the most hilarious and wonderful thing ever...my nephews and nieces woke up at 6:30am ready to see what santa had brought...

    3. the fam came into town early and we had a b-day party for my mom and bro at my house. we also took the kiddos to the fort worth bowl and had such a fun time.

    4. jay and i spent our first christmas with each other and had a blast! we were able to spend some quality time with both our families.

    5. this is not really a top five moment, but it was a hilarious one...apparently in our family, our old cell phones go to the grandkids' play area. i found my originial zack morris phone, the one i got when i turned 16. i think i had like 30 minutes of free talk time, only on nights and weekends, and any other talking cost about $5 a minute...we all had a good laugh.

    12.21.2006

    trump vs rosie

it's a quiet christmas morn...the fire roars, you wrap your gifts, the smell of cider fills the air...then the tv turns into a monster, oh no, wait, it's 'the view/the new rosie o'donnel show'! geez, i don't know if you watch or have heard about 'the view' since she joined, but man, she is stirring up some hate! that woman has a serious mouth on her. looks like she's met her match...

this morning on 'the view' rosie attacked trump calling him a bankrupt snake-oil salesman for this whole issue over the miss usa pageant (p.s. do people know it's ms america that is the big deal, not miss usa...just curious?!?). trump has words for rosie...giggle. i love the drama, i cannot lie.

    christmas weekends, part III

keeping with tradition, i give you this week/weekend top 5:

    1. the griswold famiy christmas party was a huge success. we ended up having about 50 people over the course of the evening and into the early morning. there was plenty of great food, wonderful friends, and good times. jay even dressed up as cousin eddie and we had a few HIDEOUS griswold-style sweaters, thanks to meg and chris.

    2. mary is back from chicago, so she joined a few of us to go see a very guilty pleasure of mine, pat green, in concert. we went to joe t's, the concert, and just had a blast!!

    3. anytime jay and i throw a party, we always clean up as quickly as possible and reward ourselves with a fun, relaxing day. we went downtown and had burgers, a few brews at the flying saucer, and then went to see "the pursuit of happYness," which is excellent, by the way!

    4. i know this one may sound silly, but i have wanted a new living room rug for a long time, and this weekend, i got it! we bought some other furniture, too, which i am very excited about, but i'll stop here before i start sounding like my mom...who gets excited about this stuff? i guess i really am getting old.

    5. my mom and i bought my wedding dress!!! whoa...it's really official now and the dress is gorgeous! oh, and i'm not posting a picture of this one...you'll have to wait and see!!

    12.15.2006

    go cowboys!

i hope our cowboys can pull this game off this weekend. it's exciting to cheer them on and look forward to their games again.

i just took my first virtual tour of the new stadium, and let me tell you, it is impressive. kind of like an upgraded-football-version of the AA center. while i can't wait to see my first cowboy game there, i'm equally excited for U2 to roll through town again because you know bono will book that awesome place...and if they move the OU v tx game there, i just might get over the sentimental sadness of leaving the cotton bowl. i'm obviously getting a little ahead of myself. i'll chill out a bit and get on this in 2008 or so. then i can work on getting a suite in this place...hahahaha.

    fun weekend II

the christmas season really is fun...i feel like i need to keep encouraging my weekends, keeping up their spirits, because i am having a blast and hope they all continue to be this wonderful! i am so thankful for this time of year to spend with so many of our friends and family.

so i have decided to continue to release a top 5 each week through the new year (once again, #1 takes the cake):

    1. mollie and kevin announced that they are having a little burpo! mols is due in july and we are all soooooooooooooooooooo excited to see him/her...i can't WAIT until they found out what this little one is so we can all start shopping. this is going to be one well-dressed kiddo!

  • click here to see mollie's post yesterday...a flash of baby burpo!

  • 2. jay's company took us on an amazing holiday party-journey to southlake town center, where we all were given a $500 shopping spree (and told we were only allowed to buy for ourselves)!!! woo-hoo!! i actually had a really hard time doing this in our allotted time, but trust me, i got it done! i spent the wad at my two favorite stores...

    3. we booked our annual ski trip, which of course will be to breckenridge...where we can do a little wedding planning and a LOT of skiing...can't wait for february!

    4. we supported a great cause by going to "cocktails for a cure," benefitting the cystic fibrosis foundation. our support was rewarded, when i won my first ever raffle!! again, woo-hoo! we won the "family fun pack"...tickets and memberships to museums, zoos, amusement parks, sporting events, etc. all sorts of fun stuff! seaworld, here we come...giggle.

    5. all of our holiday parties included eating, which is always fun, and some great wine. my favorites: the white truffle mac and cheese friday, the steak saturday, and the salmon sunday. YUM! of course we both had to run a little extra yesterday, but it was worth it...

    what a week!

top 5 happenings of this week (and aside from #1, in no particular order):

    1. my sooners won the big 12 championship and are headed to the fiesta bowl in arizona. BOOMER!

    2. because of this win, jay and i have already booked our trip to phoenix/scottsdale for new years and the game...can't wait!!

    3. it snowed! schools closed, offices closed...granted, it doesn't take much, but it was fun!

    4. jay and i decorated our house for christmas...the first time i have decorated my OWN home for the holidays.

"dad, you taught me everything i know about exterior illumination." -clark w. griswold

    5. our very own dallas cowboys had a huge victory today against the giants, giving us a 2-game lead in our division. we heart tony romo and the tuna!
