so last night i attended
fight night, which is hosted by
the real estate council here in dallas. essentially it is a schmooze fest for dallas working folk. a lot of
cash mcmogulson's running amuck - cocktail hour, steak dinner, cigars, and boxing. it is a boy's dream, but i was having a pretty good time myself. got to wear a new dress and chat with lots of people i haven't seen in a while.
so about the time dinner was wrapping up and boxing was beginning, my friend marc shows me a text message from my hubby saying "need to talk to katy, now." i was definitely startled. jay had been playing left field for our softball team while i was watching the silicone-clad women of dallas serve drinks to drooling old men. so at the same moment the first punches were thrown in the ring at fight night, jay got punched in the face with a softball. and as all this was happening, i was sitting at the anatole without a car or any cash for a cab (i caught a ride with a friend and took a tiny purse with no cash - my parents always told me to take cash...whoops) and was unable to rush to my sweet jay's side.
anyway, a big thank you to meg, my dear friend from college that thankfully rescued jay (she is on our softball team) and took him to the hospital for EIGHT stitches! i am so grateful to her for taking care of jay. strange coincidence is that meg's husband, chris, was also at fight night. wow, isn't the world small. fight night was a good time and i will definitely go again next year - however, i was happy to get home and to jay's side. i think next year i will have to take him with me, we don't need any additional nights apart if this is how it's gonna turn out! poor guy, fight night was really hard on him...
